Reho Travel, a B Corp Certified leading travel management company , is thrilled to announce its partnership with Underwater Cinema, a dynamic social enterprise located in Dili, Timor Leste. This collaboration marks a significant step toward fostering environmental consciousness and empowering the youth of Timor Leste, a nation with a median age of 20, which gained independence in 2002.
Underwater Cinema, led by the charismatic marine environmentalist Dedy Kayaka and operated by a dedicated team of 18 scuba divers, is on a mission to educate the Timorese people about the importance of preserving our oceans and marine ecosystems. Their innovative approach involves using snorkelling as a means to introduce individuals to the wonders of the sea while emphasising its critical role in our ecosystem.
Key initiatives of Underwater Cinema include engaging the local community in beach cleaning activities as an exchange for participating in snorkelling experiences. This practical approach not only helps keep Timor Leste’s beaches pristine but also instils a sense of responsibility and love for the environment among its participants.
Reho Travel’s involvement in this partnership will extend critical support to Underwater Cinema’s mission. Our contributions will encompass logistical assistance, the provision of essential equipment for beach cleaning and snorkelling, sponsorship of qualified freedivers from Europe to train Timorese instructors, and the utilisation of our extensive networks to sustain and expand the program’s reach.
Furthermore, Reho Travel will facilitate interaction between the Underwater Cinema program and our study tour students, offering them a unique opportunity to engage with the local community and gain firsthand insights into Timor Leste’s environmental conservation efforts.
“We are thrilled to embark on this partnership with Underwater Cinema,” said Karsten Horne, CEO at Reho Travel. “Empowering the youth of Timor Leste to become stewards of their environment aligns perfectly with our commitment to sustainable tourism. We believe that by working together, we can make a significant positive impact on the environment and the future of this remarkable nation.”
Dedy Kayaka, Founder of Underwater Cinema, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “Reho Travel’s support will be instrumental in furthering our mission to educate, inspire, and create positive change in Timor Leste. Together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of the Timorese people and the environment we all share.”
This partnership between Reho Travel and Underwater Cinema represents a powerful collaboration between a socially responsible travel company and a passionate environmental initiative. It underscores the potential for positive change when businesses and social enterprises unite for a common cause.
